Simplify Your Next Landscaping Project with Wood Chippers for Rent and More From Badger

Simplify Your Next Landscaping Project with Wood Chippers for Rent and More From Badger

When preparing for any extensive landscaping or residential construction project, renting the right equipment is among the most efficient ways to save time, labor, and money. If that project involves clearing land of trees, brush, and undergrowth, one of the primary tools you’ll need is a good wood chipper

For contractors and DIY homeowners in the Madison and Janesville areas, Badger Contractors Rental & Supply is here for all your equipment rental needs. We don’t just rent top-tier gear; we’re also available to help you select the right tools for any job and demonstrate how to use them effectively.

In this blog, we’ll examine a variety of tool rental options from Badger and how they can help you tackle a big project from start to finish. The example we will use today involves clearing and preparing a site for a new driveway and accompanying landscaping.

A project of this scope requires a diverse array of tools to complete. While it would be rare for a homeowner or even a contractor to own all of this equipment, Badger has you covered with the necessary hardware to get the job done effectively and efficiently.

Example Project: Clearing and Preparing a Site for a New Driveway and Landscaping Installation

Adding a driveway to your property can have numerous benefits, including making parking easier and enhancing the value and curb appeal of your home involves considerable planning and consideration. This includes evaluating the site for the proposed driveway and selecting the surface material, such as gravel, pavers, or concrete. Although clearing the land for construction may seem like an afterthought, it can actually be a surprisingly complex part of the process if you’re not prepared for the challenges it may present.

Step One: Clearing the Way

Once a suitable site has been chosen, the project carefully planned out, and any necessary permits obtained, you must clear the land. This process begins with the removal of existing vegetation, including trees and brush.

For trees, start by using a saw to trim the branches. Once debranched, a chainsaw may be employed to bring the tree down, as well as cut it into smaller sections for easier removal. Smaller vegetation, such as shrubs, saplings, and undergrowth, can be pruned, trimmed, and uprooted manually; however, larger jobs may require the use of a brushcutter

Felled branches, trimmings, sticks, and other brush can be gathered and repurposed into mulch using one of our wood chippers for rent. Specifically, the 6’’ Max Capacity Brush/Wood Chipper will efficiently handle lighter brush and yard debris. For larger branches and trunk sections, the ideal choice is our 12’’ Max Capacity Brush/Wood Chipper.

Step Two: Stump Removal

Any remaining tree stumps must be removed. This is a critical step in grading and creating a level foundation for your project, and eliminating the potential for regrowth. One of the most effective methods for dealing with stumps is stump grinding.

Badger has two options available when it comes to stump grinders for rent. The machine you choose will vary depending on the needs of your site. Our Auto Sweep stump grinder allows for faster grinding, making it perfect for handling multiple stumps, while the Manual Sweep stump grinder is an economical alternative for smaller jobs.

Step Three: Excavation and Site Grading

Once you have ground the stumps, you’ll want to use a mini excavator to remove tree roots, as well as any remaining rocks or other obstructions. Badger has a variety of mini excavators for rent, including the versatile John Deere 26P. With its power, maneuverability, and easy-to-use controls, this mini excavator can dig out the path for the driveway, as well as any necessary drainage trenches.

This mini excavator also tamps and grades the soil as it goes, creating a level surface. Its compact size makes it an ideal choice for residential projects, as it easily fits into spaces that would be inaccessible to standard excavators.

Step Four: Compacting the Base

Next, the soil subgrade must be compacted to reduce the space between particles, creating a denser, more stable base for the overlying driveway material. Badger has a superb plate compactor for rent for this purpose, as well as a paver compactor that can be used to compact paving stones or other hardscaping elements.

While extra subbase layers of gravel or other aggregate may be added and compacted for greater strength and stability, this is not usually necessary for smaller residential projects.
